Teaching Shapes using ICT

Areas of Learning: Mathematical Development
Context: Exploring shapes and patterns.

Learning Intentions: To talk about, recognise and create simple patterns (MD).
To use lanuage such as bigger and circle to describethe shape and size of flat shapes (MD).
To choose colours and tools for a purpose (CD).
Success Criteria: I know/can create a simple pattern.
I know/can name and describe flat shapes.
Key Vocabulary: pattern, repeating, shape, circle, square, rectangle, triangle, star, colour, palette, tool, mouse, arrow, click, paintbrush, size, line, fill, undo, print, digial camera, photograph.




You can conduct this activity by dividing the students into small groups.

Activity one:
You will need: Textease 2000 or Studio shape hat (right click on this link to save on your computer).
Create your own hat on screen using shapes from the shape bank. Decorate with more shapes, glitter and sequins and staple together.

Activity two:
You will need: simple paint program.
Create your own colourful shape using the line and fill tool. Print and create a display of shapes.
